Falls Inn Wedding

Shana + David

Shana + David had a beautiful fall wedding in September at the Falls Inn this past September.

Even after hundreds of weddings all over ontario I still find myself discovering new venues! The Falls Inn is located south of Owen Sound in the little hamlet of Walters Falls. Meg and her staff there were super helpful and friendly.

We spent the morning getting ready, the boys and girls in their own rooms with lots of running back and forth for me!

Once Shana was ready we used the lobby of the Falls Inn for a first look with her dad, always such a special moment.

Shana + David love spend a lot of time outdoors and the created a sword (fishing rod) arch for Shana to walk under as she came up the aisle during the wedding ceremony.

The ceremony was officiated by John from All Seasons Weddings who did a great job of keeping things light and fun.

Shana + David had booked the entire resort for the weekend so we had our run of the place and with the old mill and grounds there were lots of great locations for pictures including the falls, the overlook and some of the outbuildings.

I always love it when the venue makes an effort to bring some appetizers and drinks out the wedding party during pictures, it’s a nice touch that shows they care.

Shana loves sunflowers and Judi from Judi Nicholls Floral in Hanover, Ontario did an amazing job incorporationg them into both the ceremony and reception decor.

DJ Kaii Dream pulled double duty as both the MC and DJ for the night. There were some great speeches during dinner and the classic shoe game!

Pickering Farm Wedding

Ailish + Evan

This wedding had it all: a beautiful farm, a bagpiper, gigantic bonfire, a food truck and an amazing group of family and friends.

Ailish and Even actually live up in Ottawa but chose to have their wedding in the small little village of CherryWood where Evan grew up. If I’m being honest, I’m a little jealous that Evan got to grow up in Cherrywood, it seems like an extremely close knit and fun place to live! How many places can you think of where your neighbour opens up their home to 150 people so you can have your wedding?

Hair and makeup happened at yet another generous neighbours house and was done by Glam Galz while Evan and his side got ready at his parents house just down the road. After a great first look and some family portraits we all headed over to the farm for the ceremony which was officiated by Lainie Madgison who did a great job keeping the ceremony light hearted and meaningful to Ailish + Evan.

Dinner was a really nice, casual affair with everyone ordering from We the Fork… I highly recommend the jerk chicken tacos. :)

Everyone had dinner and drinks while speeches from the parents, family and friends carried on. From there it was time to the light the bonfire (by flaming arrow!) and and get the dancing started on the barn stage with a little Whitney Houston’s ‘Dance with Somebody. From the first dance on, I don’t think the dance floor slowed down for the rest of the night!

Helping to put this entire amazing day together was Liz from Alfresco Wedding and Events.

The stunning florals and bouquets were by Euclid Farms.

Langdon Hall Summer Wedding

Veronica + Brandon

Veronica + Brandon had a lovely summer wedding at the always charming Langdon Hall in Cambridge, Ontario.

Veronica and the girls began the morning in the Spiral Room with hair and make up by Pearl Group Makeup while the boys spent the morning getting last minute preparations for the wedding done.

Everyone met quickly by the pond where Veronica presented everyone in the wedding party with these amazing framed charactiure portraits that she created herself!   I was blown away by how good these were!

From there, it was a touching ceremony in Langdon Hall’s Summer House that was officiated by Martti Pajunen.  If I was ever to get married again I’m pretty sure Martti would be the one running it.  :). The florals were done by Petals Flower Company.

The ceremony featured several brilliant and personal touches including a knot tying ceremony and ‘pom-pom’ confetti made by Veronica!

The ceremony was followed by pictures on the stunning grounds of Langdon Hall and then a lovely cocktail hour on the lawn of the Summer House… there were some fierce games of Cornhole going on!

Veronica and Brandon surprised everyone at the start of the wedding reception in the Firshade Room with a formal and very well done first dance that they had been practicing for quite a while.   There was an awesome wedding cake by The Cake Box and wedding favours by Ann Haw. The rest of the reception was filled with some touching speeches and dances led by the great Chris from CM Entertainment and was finished off with a cute ‘teddy bear toss’.

Veronica and Brandon had Minosca from The Event Firm helping them out while I had the amazing Ben Benvie helping me out with the photography.

Waterloo Backyard Wedding

Katherine + Cameron

I spent a lovely Saturday photographing Katherine + Camerons intimate backyard wedding in Waterloo, Ontario.

Katherine + Cameron were surrounded by their closest friends and family to celebrate their wedding, it truly was such a great group of people! The wedding was even officiated by one of Katherine’s friends!

During the ceremony their were some heartfelt readings by the best man, maid of honour and Cameron’s niece.

Katherine + Cameron were surprised with confetti canons as they joined their guest after signing the wedding documents which made for a great moment during the day.

Something I’ve never seen before, and something I selfishly now want to see at every wedding, is that everyone got up and introduced themselves at dinner explaining their relationship to the couple… I’d love it if every wedding did this, would make my job trying figure out who’s who so much easier. :)

They had a great group of vendors to make the day special and run without a hitch including a beautiful meal by Little Mushroom Catering, stunning florals by Cameron Flower Shop, an amazing musical trio by Andriy Tykhonov and some great tents by Tri-City Tents.

Langdon Hall Summer Wedding

Tiffany + Zoubin

350+ weddings and sometimes I still get a first… remember that huge storm that rolled through a couple weeks ago? Yeah, that day!

Tiffany & Zoubin had a beautiful wedding at Langdon Hall even with having such a curveball thrown at them.

Things were going great, Tiffany and the girls were up in the Spire room doing hair and makeup. Earlier in the week, the forecast had called for rain on the Saturday but closer to the day the forecast was looking pretty good. Then, without much warning at all some people got a severe weather warning and then just before 12:30 the front hit us at Langdon Hall. Windows were blown open, full length mirrors were smashed to the ground and of course the power went out… the power went out for the next 6 hours.

After the emergency generators kicked in we spent the next 30 minutes looking for an working outlet for a hair dryer and curling iron so Tiffany could finish having her hair done… we found a working outlet in a random emergency stairwell!

I have to say that the staff at Langdon Hall handled all this with their usual professionalism and skill, making everyone there feel safe and cared for.

Once everyone was finally ready (Zoubin essentially had to get ready in the dark!), we had the couples first look in the elegant Orchard Room and then some portraits around the beautiful grounds of Langdon Hall… it was kind of amazing how fast the staff had cleaned things up.

The ceremony was held in the Summer House with Tofu the wedding dog ring bearer stealing the show!

The rest of the night was held in the Firshade Room with a beautiful dinner (of course, it’s Langdon Hall!) and some wonderfully touching speeches.

Thank you Tiffany and Zoubin for allowing me to be a part of your big day!

Langdon Hall Summer House Wedding

Elizabeth + Stephen

Really had an amazing day at Elizabeth + Stephen’s beautiful Langdon Hall wedding!

Not too many weddings where the bride gets upstaged but in this case I think even Elizabeth will allow it… these two had an adorable son who stole the spotlight without even trying!

Theirs was one of those COVID weddings where I think we were on our 2nd or 3rd postponement date by this point but I can say it was well worth the wait!

Langdon Hall has always been one of my favourite wedding venues in Ontario but I haven’t had a lot of experience with their new Firshade Room and Summer house but I can now see the appeal… I absolutely love the Summer House as a wedding venue… It combines rustic and modern and indoors and outdoors like nothing I’ve ever seen before!

I started the day at Elizabeth’s parent’s house and then it was off to Langdon Hall for a beautiful outdoor ceremony (no rain!). We followed that up with some timeless family portraits and as well as wedding party and couple photos around the grounds of Langdon Hall… even managed to get some nice golden hour pictures!

The reception was filled with some beautiful and touching speeches and some amazing food… Langdon Hall had a sweet onion puree soup that was to die for.

The evening was capped off with some lovely parent dances.

Three Bridges Waterloo Wedding

Rebecca + Matt

Rebecca + Matt had a great fall wedding at the Three Bridges event space just outside of Waterloo, Ontario.

Over 300 weddings into this I sort of think I’ve seen everything but this wedding had a new one for me… an in home barber for the guys! What a fantastic idea. Matt and his guys got a fresh trim so they were looking their best all the while getting to relax and hang out at Matt’s parents home in Waterloo. Can’t recommend this idea enough!

I joined Rebecca and her crew at a hotel in St. Jacobs as they got ready. I loved Rebecca’s Converse sneakers along with matching ones for the little flower girls.

The outdoor ceremony was held outdoors on the beautiful grounds of the Three Bridges event space. I swear the temperature dropped 15 degrees right before the autumn ceremony. We all powered through it and celebrated as Rebecca and Matt officially tied the knot. After the ceremony there was a large group photo of everyone (Most photographers hate doing these… I secretly like them!), some family photos and then we piled into the limo bus to get some more portraits in the surrounding country side taking advantage of some of the beautiful fall colours.

Being October, the reception had a really great fall/halloween vibe going all the way down to the pumpkin centrepieces filled with halloween candy…. A fact that the guests at my table didn’t discover until well into the night. :). We managed to sneak out at sunset for some golden hour wedding portraits, this time we were literally outside for less than a minute but still got some great images. Quality over quantity I always say.

One of the highlights of the night was an amazing ‘History of Dance’ number Rebecca and her dad put on during their father/daughter dance.

Some highlights from the rest of the night included a great shoe game, late night cigars and a packed dance floor!

Langdon Hall Winter Wedding

Amanda + Rob

Amanda + Rob had a beautiful wedding at the always amazing Langdon Hall in Cambridge, Ontario.

It was a nice relaxing later start to the day in the beautiful bridal suites at Langdon Hall with Amanda and her sister having their hair and make up done.  Making things really easy on me, always a plus but not always a reality, Rob got ready in the room right beside Amanda's!

They deciding to have a first look before their wedding ceremony so they could get all their pictures done ahead of time and before it got dark... but we still went out for some great portraits after dark too!

Once we finished up with portraits of the wedding party and the families it was time for the
ceremony which was held outside in the beautiful new outdoor Summer House that was part of Langdon Hall's recent additions.  Don't worry though, everyone kept warm surrounded by space heaters and snuggled in fleece blankets.

The ceremony was officiated by the good folks at Kettle Creek Weddings who always do a great job.  It's always great working with them!

Unfortunately, Rob's mother broke her leg a week before the wedding and was unable to fly out from the west coast but I though it was a really nice touch that they set up a live stream so they could watch the ceremony and still be a part of everything.

Cocktails after the wedding ceremony were held in the new Firshade Room and then everyone headed up to the Orchard Room for the wedding reception where Amanda & Rob were introduced and a beautifully choreographed first dance.

Every wedding I see something new and this time it was the kissing game... you know the type, you have to do something to get the bride and groom to kiss instead of clinking glasses.  This time it was 'Mean Tweets' and let me say that their guests came up with some good ones that they forced Amanda + Rob to read.  :)

At this point I shouldn't have to say that the food at Langdon Hall was amazing as well as the service.

Amanda + Rob are big karaoke fans so it was inevitable that everyone was singing during their reception... I'm not going to lie, I've heard better versions of Piano Man.  :)

Langdon Hall Wedding

Alex + Bobby

This was such a great little intimate wedding at Langdon Hall!

Alex and Bobby were joined by some of their closest friends and family for the ceremony and then dinner in the Colonel Langdon room at Langdon Hall in Cambridge, Ontario.  As you would expect, the food at Langdon Hall is second to none.  The presentations are a work of art!

In a former life, Bobby was an assistant OHL coach so it wasn't really a surprise to anyone there that he had the staff at Langdon Hall set up a TV during dinner so they could all watch some World Cup of Hockey!   They even had a custom hockey stick made up with their wedding date and his team colours on it!

It was a beautiful autumn day and we got an amazing sunset for pictures.

I really love shooting these smaller, intimate weddings at Langdon Hall!

One from the Portfolio...

This is the second part in a continuing series called 'One from the Portfolio' where I explain a little of the background of some of my favourite wedding photographs.

You can see the first image in the series here.

I love this image is from Lisa + Greg's wedding at Whistle Bear Golf Club.

I was photographing the wedding party and looking for something a little different and decided to put them all up on a nearby ridge (I think the chip & putt was on the other side).

I had taken a few frames and was just about to wrap things up when their flower girl (and their daughter!) decided she had had enough and walked down the hill towards me.  Never one to give up on a shot, I kept shooting and wound up with this image that was way better than the ones with everyone up on the ridge.

I love the flower girls expression and the fact that the picture is about her now and the wedding party is out of focus and is just a supporting element in the picture.
